SUMMARY:Progressive Game Jam: ED - Preview
DESCRIPTION:PGJ ED Preview class open now! This class is a 1-day preview of the upcoming PGJ ED course in 2024. The preview class is a 4-hour crash course in video game development and introduction to the full 10-week course. \nPGJ ED is a 10-week educational program designed for our area’s youth (ages 12 – 18) where they will learn to make video games by making an actual game. Modeled after our successful Progressive Game Jam program\, which has been running for ten years now\, PGJ ED will take participants through a full development lifecycle to make a full game. The program uses video game development to teach participants STEAM-based skills. Registration for the full course is open now and classes start in February 2024. The program is funded by a generous Measure U grant from the City of Sacramento and is free for all participants. \nThe program is open to residents of Sacramento ages 12-18. Classes are limited to 20 participants\, first-come\, first-served. \nThe 1-day preview class happens on Saturday\, Dec. 16th\, 2023\, and will run from 1:00pm to 5:00pm at Lab 7 Coworking\, 2417 21st St.\, Sacramento\, CA 95818. \nParticipants must register for the class. DESCRIPTION:What is GGJ NEXT™? \nGGJ NEXT provides both educational opportunities to learn about game development and a yearly jam for young people age 12-17. \nThe GGJ NEXT jam aims to bring together talented young people within their school and community. It is a unique opportunity for students to learn new STEAM skills\, and improve their creative thinking and exploration in a safe space. \nThe GGJ NEXT jam will happen all over the globe based around a central theme. Over 50 locations worldwide will be hosting 1 to 5 day game jams in the month of July. Now young creators can be a part of the Global Game Jam sensation that’s been going on for over 10 years. \nPlease note! This will be a 2-day game jam from 10:00am – 6:00pm on Saturday\, July 13th & Sunday\, July 14th. Participants must be picked up no later than 6:00pm on each day. Please plan to arrive at least 15 minutes early for pickup. \nThe game jam is open to ages 12 – 17 \nA limited amount of computer resources will be available at the location. Participants may bring their own computer or laptop. \nThis event is Free courtesy of our sponsors.
